ALOHA :)

July 30, 2013

So this week was not too bad. I feel like it has passed by in a blur. I don't have very much time so this email will be short.

I made it to my month mark! I feel pretty accomplished ;P Only 17 more months to go! I have loved every aspect of my mission thus far! The good, the bad and everything in between! I have felt myself grow so much this past month and I am so excited to see how the rest of my mission helps me. I have the best mission in the world!

This past Sunday I was asked to sing in church and also give a talk in a different ward. It was pretty hectic, but so good!  I sang, 'When We Meet Again', and in church I talked about missionary work and how every member needs to participate in missionary work. I feel like I did pretty good. I was pretty nervous though! I love giving talks! I enjoy trying to think of new ideas to share with others. One thing that I shared was how little invitations can bring about BIG conversion. We as missionaries and members need to be anxiously engaged in the work of salvation. We need to love everyone and remember that Christ wants all of us to return to him. Not just a select few, but all of us. I love missionary work! It is amazing to think that for the next 17 months I am going to be able to wake up and do the Lord's work! That puts a smile on my face because not only am I helping others grow closer to Christ, but I am growing closer to him as well!

One of the hardest things about my mission is getting people to church! Everyone lives fairly close to the church buildings, but they refuse to go! We are working really hard on trying to get our members out to church just for an hour or so. We are trying to think of new and different ways to invite people out. If anyone has any ideas they would like to share please E-mail me!

Actually, just write me or E-mail me regardless of advice. I would love to hear from everyone! I am loving my mission. I get to meet a lot of interesting people and I really get to see how the gospel has helped others because there are a lot of recent converts in my area. It has really helped my testimony to grow seeing how strong they all are in the gospel.

Thank you all so much for your support I couldn't do it without all of your prayers!

Till next time ;)

God Has a Sense of Humor!

July 23, 2013

So this week has flown by, and it started out so good! As many of you know, and as I have found out, a lot of good things on the mission don't last very long! At the start of the week we pinned 3 baptisms. In my opinion that's pretty dang good! As the week passed we kept teaching and everything was going good.  Then the weekend came and we could not pin anything down! All of our appointments kept falling through. The guy who was supposed to get baptized next Saturday, named Joe Rios, missed church so we have to push back his baptism date. The little girl we were teaching named Miriah missed church as well so she can't get baptized as soon either. Arianna who is the cutest 11 year old girl wants to be baptized by her less-active father so instead of having her baptism on August 10th we have no idea when she will be getting baptized now. I don't mean to sound down, I really am not, I am so happy.

This week is going to be great! We have a ton planned and we will keep meeting with all of our investigators. I just hope that we can convey to them how important church attendance is and how important baptism is. Actually I really wish we could convey how important church is to the members as well! Nobody attends church here! Hahah, but eh what can you do about it other than encourage them with the spirit ;)

So I have high hopes for these next 2 weeks. Hopefully not only will we find more people to teach, but we will get more people to church as well. I am so excited! I know there is so much to be done, we just need to keep up with all of it!

All right, so one funny thing that has happened this week. (Well, I guess there was a few of them.)  On Saturday a cute old couple took Sister Kindt and I out to a Chinese buffet. Not the best idea to eat there. We were seriously in bed for a few hours on Saturday we got so sick! It was gross! We were able to get up and go to a lesson though and I almost wish we didn't. It was bad... The mom basically told us the only reason she went to church was for welfare, and that she didn't think her kids would go to church, and she didn't want to because it was too early (9:00 am). So we left in a pretty bad mood and decided to go get Slurpee's (we get one almost everyday) and on the way there this kid rolled up in his car and yelled at us, "Looking good ladies," and then he did a double take and asked, "Wait, are you Sister Missionaries?" We said ya, and he yelled at us "You are the hottest missionaries I have ever seen." I think God knew we needed something to laugh at so he sent him our way. God has a pretty good sense of humor doesn't he? ;)

I have to admit even though I did get a little frustrated this week I have been able to learn so much! I have studied a ton and I have even been trying to actually memorize Scripture Mastery scriptures since I never did in seminary. I am building my foundation upon the rock of my redeemer ( Helaman 5:12) and I am going to keep a strong and steady foundation because of him.

...Today I was so happy because We got to go to the temple! We went up to the Logan temple! It was huge! It was so nice! I am so happy to be able to go to the temple. I have felt so close to the lord here and I never want to lose that feeling! I love it and I love who the mission is helping me to become! I could not have asked to be sent to a better mission! I know the Lord knows and understands me and knew this is where I needed to be to progress and draw closer to him. I love my mission! I am so happy to be here and to meet so many amazing people! I Miss you all and love you so much! Thank you for the love and support, You are all so amazing!
Till next time,

Week 2: Best Spiritual High Ever!

July 16th, 2013

HEY FOLKS! I'm still alive! Thank goodness! These past 2 weeks have been something else! I finished up at the MTC (It felt like it would never end!) and I am finally out in the mission field and what can I say other than I LOVE IT! But I am going to cover the rest of the MTC before I go into what's been happening in the field.

In my second week at the MTC I was struggling and my companion could tell, so she basically told me to buck up or go home. Man that was a pretty good slap to the face, but I needed it, and after that I fully applied myself. There was a 180 difference, not only did I feel the spirit more, but I was able to have better concentration and I could find scriptures way better. I'm still pretty bad at both studying and finding scriptures, but I am trying my best!

On the 4th of July we had a fireside and then got to go watch fireworks. The only problem was, we couldn't see any dang fireworks! The trees were all in the way! So my comp and I ran around photo-bombing everyone we could! It was pretty fun. We didn't have a curfew that night so we partied hard until I wanna say 11 O'clock! Ya, we are pretty wild missionaries! hahaha. I was also able to lead a class role play! It was seriously the coolest thing ever! Mainly because I was always one of the people chilling in the back, not having a clue what was going on, but I was so on it with this "investigator"! After we were done role playing my class looked at me and everyone one kinda stopped and was like, where in the world did that come from? It felt pretty cool! It probably was the BEST SPIRITUAL HIGH EVER! It was a good way to end my time at the MTC!

Last Wednesday we made our way up to Ogden. We caught the train which was pretty fun.  There where 32 missionaries going up with me! It was exciting! When we got there we were able to meet President and Sister Heirs, I call them Mamma and Papa Heirs, they are the best! We went over a ton of stuff. I really don't remember any of it! It's ok though, they also gave us a huge packet to read with the same information so I should be good. Then we headed over to the Mission President's house for a testimony meeting. That night we got to stay in some members houses which was really fun! The lady we stayed with was amazing! She made us hot chocolate and homemade cookies! I felt so spoiled ;)

The next day is when all the fun stuff began to happen! We went to meet our Trainers! Can I tell you there is probably no other mission that makes as big of a deal about new missionaries like the Utah Ogden mission! It was fantastic! When we got there we where herded towards the cultural hall where all of our Trainers were. When we got in there everyone went crazy! They were yelling and clapping and pounding on chairs.... It was crazy! They had us all sit on one side, then one by one they would call us up and there would be yelling, clapping, drum rolls and then they would announce our Trainers! It was was almost like a game show! Everyone went wild! The Trainers of the boys would run up to the front and do victory laps or pick his new comp up. I was one of the first girls to be called up and I was put with.......................Sister Kindt! She is amazing! She has been out on her mission for over a year and she is probably the best Trainer in the world!

So a little about my area: I am serving in Roy Utah, it's a little town that you would think would be straight out of the TV show, 'My Name Is Earl'.  It makes me laugh! Tons of apartments and lots and lots of interesting people. I am in a walking mission, thank goodness! (I won't gain as much weight.)  I love my district and zone! Utah is a cool place! I love my area so much! People are pretty open to the gospel where I am at. They might not be the nicest, but eh it's OK, I told sister Kindt I was sent here to spread some Aloha spirit!

I would put in a spiritual experience, but I have been so confused with meeting new people and this whole week, that I just cant think of anything at the moment! Hopefully I will have a good one for you next week!

So this is getting pretty long and I am running out of time, but here are some cool facts about the Utah Ogden mission:

There are over 250 missionaries serving in this mission
60 of which are sister missionaries
We have back to back to back lessons almost everyday
and the members try as hard as they can to make us fat!

Well, I love my mission and I don't have much else to say!

Till next time,

Sister Krissy Pitt ;)

What a Week!

What a week! I seriously think this has probably been the longest week of my entire life! I am not even close to joking about this! The hours feel like days, the days feel like weeks, and this week has felt like a month, its crazy! But I wouldn't change it for anything! It has probably been the best and worst week I will ever have in my mission life! I am so excited to be here with so many other Missionaries who are going forward to do the Lord’s work! I think I have one of the best companions in the world. Her name is Sister Despain (or Deathpain if you have a lisp). She is seriously one of the funniest people I have ever met. She reminds me so much of Caressa but she sings all the time and has a really nice voice. She attended BYUH both Fall and Winter semester and I knew when I first walked into the classroom that I had seen her before! It was so awesome to have someone who knows about Hawaii and has lived there.

I am so happy to be here, I am having so much fun! At night before I go to bed I am usually really wound up and have lots of energy, so I run around the dorm and jump in front of Sisters rooms that have their doors open and scare them! If you could only see their faces, they jump about a mile high and look terrified! I usually end up on the floor laughing with them and then I apologize and run away! They probably think I'm crazy but it might be the only thing keeping me sane! I know the girls in my district think I am crazy. I always feel like I am low on energy when we are on our down time so I will make really weird faces or voices just to try to keep myself awake and they will look at me like I am crazy! It’s very amusing. I also got to play volleyball the other day but it was probably a really bad idea because I got way too into it and jammed my thumb pretty good. It hurts soooooo bad! But I'm fine. I can live without my thumb. You really don't need it to read or pray so I am good for the next few days!

These past two days have been very funny for me because an Elder from our Zone who just left the MTC on Tuesday wrote me two letters asking me to write him and gave me a CTR “promise to write me ring!” :-P It was really funny because the elders in my district were making a huge deal about what his letters said (I hadn't opened them yet) trying to freak me out, and it worked pretty well. I thought he was going to profess his love for me and give me a promise ring (which in a way I guess is what he did) but they got me good. I seriously was scared all day because we can’t open our mail until 9:30 at night after classes and they kept teasing me and reminding me all day! When I finally opened the letters they weren't that bad, but they still were a little weird.

So, in the MTC I think everyone might be a little Bipolar. One minute we will be in class laughing, joking around and the next minute we will be role-playing and bawling like little girls. It is actually really funny. The spirit is so strong here! You really do want to have a good time, but you don't want the spirit to leave so you will be trying to find that balance which is hard! I have had some amazing experiences with the spirit though!

On Friday I was having a really hard time and I just had the feeling that I wanted to go home! My companion suggested that I receive a blessing. I asked Elder Hunt in my district if he could give me one (he has never given a blessing before). By the time he was done I was crying so hard I could barely see it was so powerful! I feel so blessed to be able to receive blessings from these worthy young men. They are such an inspiration to me!

Another experience I had was the other night our teacher had us close our eyes while he read from Alma 36:18-20. We had to visualize all of our sins and how terrible they made us feel, he then had us think of everything that made us feel joy. It was probably the strongest I have ever felt the spirit. It is amazing to think of how much Christ has done for us, and how much he loves us! Jesus Christ is my Savior and my Redeemer. He loves me so much and I love him. I will give my all to bring others unto Him, because I want them to know and feel the JOY that I have felt from him and this gospel! I am so happy to be on my mission. I know for a fact that there is no other place on this earth that I should be. The Lord needs me here and I can’t wait to go out into the field and do his work. I love you all and I hope you keep writing me! Thanks for all the love and support it has helped me so much this first week!

Till next time,

Sister Krissy Pitt ;)
